A series of two portraits connected by patterns. This image is based on one of my childhood memories; my father kicked out my cat when I was a kid and this picture allows me to go back in time and hide her under my pillow, away from my father.

{Ron Mueck Exhibition}
If u're Melbournian, dont miss your opportunity to see amazing Ron Mueck's sculptures Exhibition in a National Gallery of Victoria (22 Jan - 18 Apr 2010). He (born 1958) is an Australian hyperrealist sculptor working in the United Kingdom. Mueck moved on to establish his own company in London, making photo-realistic props and animatronics for the advertising industry. Although highly detailed, these props were usually designed to be photographed from one specific angle hiding the mess of construction seen from the other side. Mueck increasingly wanted to produce realistic sculptures which looked perfect from all angles (wiki).
It was amazing to see giant and small sculptures with realistic details and dramatic emotions. 'In bed' is my favorite sculpture and don't forget to check the video of The Making of In Bed.

A Girl (2006),
a five metre long, hyper-realistic depiction of a newborn. The umbilical cord is still partly attached, and the detail in the scrunched face is impeccable, while the massive yet perfectly scaled body is marked all over with blood from the process of birth -theaustralian. (photos@nani p)

Two women (2005),
a work that eschews the stereotypical presentation of elderly women in popular culture by rendering the figures with a critical air, deep wrinkles, osteoporosis, thinning hair and bunched stockings, is much smaller than life, perhaps emphasising the troll-like nature of the women -theaustralian. (photos@nani p)

Wild Man (2005),
in which a giant naked man recoils from visual contact with us. It seems like an allegory of civilisation, in which the noble savage is frightened by our evil sophistication -theage. (photos@nani p)

Youth (2009),

Woman with sticks (2008),
shows a naked lady bundling together kindling, which she hugs against her chest, arching her back and deflecting her face to avoid injury. She has a contented workaday expression, but the task would be painful in the nude. So we either see the figure as some Stone Age ancestor or an improving symbol of hardy virtue -theage. (photos@nani p)

In Drift (2009),(photos@nani p)

Still Life (2009) ,
as if acknowledging the tradition of small culinary pictures that linked the tabletop genre with holy sacrifice -theage. (photos@nani p)

Old woman in bed (2000/02),

Man in a boat (2002),
a materialist middle-class guy floating on an inflatable mattress is displayed vertically upon a celestial wall. His outstretched arms recall those of Jesus on the cross-theage. (photos@nani p)
